Modern psychotherapy shows an increasingly attention for a competency-based and positive approach in working with patients with mental health problems. This approach is particularly visible in the Positive Psychology and Positive CBT.
Positive CBT is a new form of psychotherapy is a new perspective on traditional CBT. It shows a shift in the focus of therapy from what is wrong to what is right. It helps patients to reduce stress by increase strengths and promoting a healthier balance sheet. Positive CBT builds on resources, competences and virtues the patients already possesses or learn to obtain.
The theoretical sources of Positive CBT can be found in Positive Psychology with its long and firm foundation in philosophy.

1) Identity and Integrated Diversity: how do we build a strong society based on healthy people? Each individual is unique and has relationships with other unique people: by being what I uniquely am, I give what I alone can give. This theme is about a) the characteristics of a strong identity, b) strong relationships.
How can Positive CBT help patients to build and belong?
2) Optimism: can we learn optimism? How can Positive CBT help patient to be optimistic? Can you learn optimism?
3) Patience and endurance: emotion regulation is an important theme in clinical psychology. How can Positive CBT help patient to improve patience and endurance?
4) Love and Compassion: What’s love? What about compassion and its relation to mental health? How can Positive CBT help patients to be more compassionate?
5) Posttraumatic growth: Many patients in mental health care are struggling with traumas. How can we help this people from the perspective of Positive CBT and the concept of posttraumatic growth?
6) The Science of Trust: what’s the relation between trust and betrayal? How can we help patient to built trust? How can we help them to start building relationships again?
7) Authentic Happiness and a Meaningful Life: Is there more to life than being happy? What’s the difference between being happy and having a meaning in life? How can we help our patients in their search for meaning?
8) Well-being and Mental Health: Can we define positive mental well-being? How can we help patients to increase their mental well-being? Can we use Positive CBT?
9) Forgiveness and Mental Health: How can we define forgiveness? What’s the relation between forgiveness and mental health? How can we help our patients to forgive? (Themselves and others). Can we use Positive CBT and offer therapist a model or instruction?
10) Gratitude and Mental Health: Can we learn to be grateful? How can a patient with severe mental issues be grateful? Can we help these patients with Positive CBT?
11) Happy couples and Mental Health: How can we define ‘the happy couple’? What about the relationships between a loving and strong relationship and (mental) health?
12) Resilience and Mental Health: How can we define resilience? A famous tree, the Libanon ceder is a metaphor for resilience and strength. Can we use Positive CGT to help patients to become like a ceder?
